John began in the most unlikely of soccer cities, Jackson, Mississippi where he was fortunate to develop under the guidance of a most knowledgeable father (Bill Lytton – a true pioneer in US Soccer). In high school, recognized as the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year and AP State Player of the Year in 1999, John felt the call to leave the South for college and begin his independence in yet another unlikely destination, the University of Massachusetts. After 3 years of soccer and personal success in Amherst, MA he found himself returning to his hometown and finishing his collegiate career at the program his father originated in 1981 at NAIA’s Belhaven University. Upon graduating with a degree in Exercise Science, John made his professional playing debut in Brazil and after a short lived career he returned to the States where he is currently living in Charlotte with his wife (Sarah) and son (Jackson).
Since 2006, John has worked with thousands of
athletes in Charlotte, across the country, and even internationally. Beyond heading up Performance Unlimited, John was the Director of Performance with the Charlotte Independence of the United Soccer League during their first 2 years of existence as well as the current fitness consultant for the Charlotte Eagles men’s and women’s soccer club. He has recently accepted the role as the Head of Sports Science with the u14 US Boys National Team and holds certifications with the most well respected associations in the training industry. John has previosuly worked within various training roles such as: Performance Director at Charlotte Soccer Club and assisting the off season speed and conditioning program for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. He currently consults with several youth clubs and college programs around the country in addition to running Charlotte’s premiere soccer specific training company. In June 2017, John will complete his licensing in Body Work and Manual Therapy upon which he will add yet another value to his clients.
